I’m performing maintenance on the reciprocating compressor in my workshop; I’ve never disassembled it before. Now I’ve taken out the packing and am preparing to replace it with new packing. When reinstalling the packing, should the packing be installed first, or should the piston rod be inserted into the cylinder body first? Single-barrel piston compressor. Urgent! !
Install the packing first, then the piston rod.
It is much easier to install the packing first. Be sure to put a protective sleeve on the threads at the end of the piston rod to prevent damage to the packing.
