Dear teachers: According to Article 12.3 of the \"Code for Design of Process Piping in Refining Units\" (SH∕T 3122-2013), double isolation valves should be installed on the inlet and outlet pipes of hydrogen compressors; an exhaust pipeline equipped with a three-valve assembly should be placed between these two valves. Safety valves should be installed on each level of outlet pipes, with their discharge outlets leading to a closed venting system. How should we understand the installation of a discharge pipeline with a three-valve assembly between two valves? Does the three-valve assembly include dual isolation valves? Where does the discharge pipeline discharge to?
A three-valve assembly generally refers to a combination of two shut-off valves and one bypass valve; this configuration allows for pressure relief or sampling of the system through the bypass valve when the two main shut-off valves are closed. Here, the installation of a discharge line with a three-valve assembly between the two valves means that a valve assembly comprising these three valves is installed between the two shut-off valves, for discharging hydrogen or other gases that may be present in the compressor during maintenance or emergency situations. The discharge pipeline is usually connected to a safe location or a closed venting system, to ensure that the discharge process does not cause harm to the environment or people. The three-valve assembly does not include the two shut-off valves mentioned above, but rather refers to the additional valve configuration between those two shut-off valves. .
If two cut-off valves are located close to each other, is it still necessary to install a three-valve assembly?
The three-valve assembly we are referring to is a stop valve + check valve + stop valve
