I use a PPI diaphragm compressor for my installation; the working medium is hydrogen, with an inlet pressure of 1.9 MPag and an outlet pressure of 3.8 MPag. Recently, the diaphragm had to be replaced due to damage, and it has been less than 3 months since the last replacement. The equipment staff said it was caused by low startup pressure, but the manufacturer provided me with an operating procedure stating that startup should occur when the inlet pressure is no higher than 30 kpag, and the process engineers strictly adhere to this pressure requirement. But why did the diaphragm break so quickly? I seek advice from professionals! !
There must be a step that wasn’t done properly; it’s best to use the process of elimination to check each one one by one.
Where did it break? At the small hole in the pump head, or at the detection groove of the middle diaphragm?
First, the diaphragm breaks, and there are several main reasons for this. 1. Impurities in the compression medium, either solid or liquid. 2. Impurities in the hydraulic oil. 3. Quality issues with the diaphragm itself. 4. Installation procedures. Before installing the diaphragm, it must be thoroughly cleaned; there must be no traces at all. 5. Other. This includes insufficient oil replenishment, as well as inaccurate or highly fluctuating pressure at the oil circuit relief valve. Issues such as startup when the ambient temperature is too low; it’s not possible to see the exact location and extent of the damage from the image.
