What is the name of that device, similar to an oil injection pump, that is located between the inlet for the isolation fluid in the double-end face mechanical seal and the pressure sampling port inside the tank? How to determine if the seal on the medium side is leaking?
If there is a leak in the medium-side seal, the medium will enter the isolation fluid tank on the atmosphere side, causing the pressure in that tank to rise. Meanwhile, the pressure of the isolation fluid on the atmosphere side will decrease. Check the seals according to API682
PLANS 52 and 53 present slightly different behaviors regarding leakage on the medium side; is your pump model 52 or 53?
Due to high-pressure sealing, and because the cross-sectional area of the piston varies, the pressure on the oil side is higher than that in the polymerization system; this leads to leakage at the seal on the medium side. The piston then moves upward to replenish the oil, and the amount of oil that leaks per unit time can be measured using the scale marked on the piston
If it’s PLAN53C, that device is called a piston accumulator, and it has scales on it. API682 4th will be equipped with a level transmitter. Used to monitor seal leaks.
