Regarding last week’s incident, the workshop reported that the vacuum pump made a loud noise while operating. Upon arriving at the site, a smell similar to that of something that had been burned was detected, so the pump was stopped for inspection. The paint on the bearing cover came off entirely due to high temperatures; the bearing cage broke apart, the rollers were burned and deformed, and friction between the inner ring and the shaft caused scoring on the pump shaft – making it impossible to carry out repairs on site. The bearing area of the pump shaft is abraded and requires repair at the factory. The hexagon at the top of the shaft that is used for rotating it has changed color, and the condition of the bearings is terrible. Lessons from the accident: Inadequate maintenance – the bearings were operated without lubricant; poor workshop management – the pump was kept running despite emitting abnormal noises, which led to the complete destruction of the bearings and damage to the pump shaft. One vacuum pump was damaged by freezing during the year, and another was burned out just after the New Year. The inadequate equipment management in the workshop is absolutely outrageous.
