Do pump casings for conventional cantilever pumps or pumps with dual supports usually have exhaust ports? What is its function? Is it only used at the start of operation? Do these ports need to be connected to pipes?
You already mentioned it’s an exhaust vent, so of course it’s for exhaust. Connecting pipelines refers to receiving the medium during exhaust?
Vent holes are used to exhaust air from the pump before it is started, in order to prevent air locking, but they are usually installed on the pump’s outlet pipeline. The holes in the pump body you mentioned – are they intended for self-flushing mechanical seals? They lead from the high-pressure area of the pump (usually at the pump outlet) to the mechanical seal, where they circulate to cool and lubricate it. Would it be best to include diagrams?
As far as I know, pumps with the outlet facing upward generally do not have an exhaust port on the pump body, while pumps like the BB3, which have intake and outlet ports on the sides, are equipped with an exhaust port on the pump body. If transporting flammable hazardous media, it is best to connect a flare line.

Its purpose is to remove air, so that the pump can be filled with water before it is started for the first time. The pump has been shut down for a long time, so it needs to be depressurized and refilled with water again
