The compressor impeller in the image is worn. What are the possible reasons for this condition? Thank you

It is usually caused by the presence of other substances in the steam, which leads to scaling on the impeller volute; this scaling results in friction between the impeller’s end face and the volute. Another possibility is that the clearance of the thrust bearings is too large, causing excessive axial movement of the rotor, and thus friction between the impeller’s end face and the volute

There’s no problem with the steam; it’s the high-speed bearings that are having issues. The bearing shells and thrust bearings are likely to have some degree of wear. The engine set should be from Jiangtong, right?
