Is it feasible to install a temperature sensor at the screw air compressor head to monitor the temperature of the bearing in that head? Is it needed? I feel that the temperature of the lubricating oil in the air compressor itself can reflect the operating temperature of the bearings.
Everything that’s needed is already there; just make good use of it. Once there is an abnormality in the bearing, a bearing temperature detection element should be available.
The screw compressor has only an over-temperature alarm, but the temperature being measured is the oil temperature, specifically the temperature of the oil inside the oil-gas separator; it is this temperature that triggers the over-temperature alarm, not the temperature inside the compressor head. There is a slight difference between the two temperatures.
In some of these compressors, the temperature sensor is located on the bearing housing; if it isn’t there, simply drill a hole, tap it, and insert one. I just don’t know what it looks like, or whether it exists in that location at that depth.
