On May 28th, the Shilongba Hydropower Station on the Manglang River, downstream of Dianchi Lake in Kunming, celebrated its 110th anniversary. As the first hydropower station in mainland China, the Shilongba Hydropower Station has withstood many trials over the years and is still generating electricity today. Looking down at the Shilongba Hydropower Station from above, Lake Dian can be seen in the distance. Upon entering the station, the antique-style quadrangle courtyards, the tall and lush pine trees, as well as the weathered blue bricks and black tiles all convey a sense of historical depth. Inside the factory, the first generator set put into operation in 1912 continues to emit a strong, resonant humming sound. On August 21, 1910, the construction of the Shilongba Hydropower Station began. More than 1,000 craftsmen from various parts of the country flocked to Shilongba, overcoming numerous difficulties to become the \"pioneers\" of hydroelectric development in China. On May 28, 1912, the Shilongba Hydropower Station began generating electricity. On this day, the night sky over Kunming was lit by electric lights for the first time. “This power plant pioneered the use of clean hydropower in China and has made extraordinary contributions throughout various periods. ”Pu Gang, Secretary of the Party General Branch and General Manager of Shilongba Power Plant, explained that in addition to ensuring power supply for industrial production and residential use, the power plant also has the role of regulating the water level of Dianchi Lake, preventing floods and droughts, as well as supporting agricultural irrigation. As cultural heritage, the turbine equipment at Shilongba Hydropower Station has undergone 7 expansions; it currently has 4 generating units with a total installed capacity of 7,360 kilowatts. Over the past 110 years, this power plant has generated more than 1 billion kWh of electricity in total. Today, the power generation figures are still being updated. In recent years, this hydropower station has been designated as an \"industrial heritage site\" and recognized as a national key cultural relic protection unit; it has become a place where people can experience the legacy of the revolutionary era.
