In industrial production, mechanical equipment generates heat during operation. If this heat is not dissipated in a timely manner, it can affect the proper functioning of the equipment, as well as the quality of the products and the efficiency of production. Another scenario is when the product being processed needs to reach a certain temperature in order to be processed properly, or to achieve a higher rate of quality and improved production efficiency. Therefore, the temperature of the product to be processed must be brought to the ideal level before or during processing, and this is where chillers come in handy. I. Cooling capacity: The cooling capacity of a chiller is directly related to the proper operation of production equipment and its efficiency. If the cooling capacity is insufficient, an optimal cooling effect cannot be achieved; this may result in reduced production efficiency and higher operating energy costs. In severe cases, the production equipment may not function properly, leading to the shutdown of the production line. However, if an oversized unit is chosen, energy will be wasted and operating costs will increase; furthermore, the greater the cooling capacity of the chiller, the higher its price. Therefore, selecting a cooling capacity that is appropriately matched is very crucial. II. Volume of chilled water: The volume of chilled water refers to the ice-water produced by the chiller, which is used directly to cool the area in question. However, the flow rate of this water has a direct impact on the efficiency of heat exchange. This flow rate is determined based on the material, density, and heat exchange characteristics of the area to be cooled. Some devices have specific requirements regarding the cooling flow rate, as insufficient water volume makes it impossible to achieve effective cooling. Therefore, the water flow rate is directly related to the operation of the chiller and the cooling efficiency of the production equipment. III. Temperature at the inlets and outlets for import and export: When production equipment or raw materials need to be cooled during manufacturing, there is a temperature difference at the pipes connecting the chiller to the production equipment. This temperature difference represents the heat generated by the production equipment itself, and it allows for a fairly accurate calculation and selection of the appropriate chiller. IV. Understand the volume, weight, specific heat, and density of the parts of the equipment being cooled or of the raw materials used in production. This allows for a quick and accurate calculation of the cooling capacity required for the chiller. At the same time, record the time required for the initial temperature of the material being cooled to drop to the target temperature; this is also a way to calculate the cooling capacity. It is also important to be aware of the highest and lowest temperatures required or tolerable for production equipment or materials, in order to avoid any damage to them. V. What is the cooling medium? Common cooling media include tap water, ethylene glycol solutions, oils and fats, seawater, food and beverages, etc. VI. Whether the user prefers an air-cooled or water-cooled type: Although both air-cooled and water-cooled chillers are types of chillers, they differ in the way in which they are cooled, and therefore their installation methods also vary. Air-cooled models are more convenient – they can be operated once water pipes and power supply are connected – but their cooling performance is slightly inferior to that of water-cooled chillers. This is because air-cooled chillers use air for cooling, and air is greatly affected by the ambient temperature; moreover, space needs to be left around the chiller during installation. Water-cooled chillers are so named because they use water for their own cooling. Such chillers require a cooling tower to cool the unit; compared to air-cooled chillers, they have two additional water pipes in the piping system. However, water-cooled chillers offer much better performance, and it is even possible to choose a smaller model for them. Therefore, given the conditions for installation, most users opt for water-cooled chillers.
