These areas are set according to the requirements of fluid flow during compression and expansion, based on the flow velocity, resulting in varying diameters along the different sections. This change is an excessive continuation for transportation and other reasons. If there is a sudden change in diameter, vortices will be generated in the fluid. I’m not sure if this understanding is valid; the internal structure of the compressor, including the volute, is designed in a shape that facilitates expansion.
