If a centrifugal pump operates without load for an extended period of time, it can suffer damage. So which common types of pumps will not be damaged even if they operate without load for a long time?
Actually, the pump is fine in all other aspects when not under load; it’s just that frictional heat generation poses a problem in terms of damage to the equipment.
The only commonly used type is the diaphragm pump; with other types, the mechanical seal burns out in just a few minutes or even seconds
Why is there no load? Is it a requirement of the manufacturing process?
Diaphragm pumps can operate without load, as can water ring pumps; almost all other types cannot
