Generally according to design standards, the outer diameter of the piston is smaller than the diameter of the cylinder (the diameter, layout, medium, working conditions and other factors are different). The pad of the plastic support ring supports the entire piston (together with the piston rod) in the piston groove. Therefore, the thickness of the support ring must be higher than the ring groove. If it is lower, something will happen and the cylinder will be pulled. The piston ring is different. The piston ring floats when working. Under the action of gas pressure, the outer circumferential surface of the piston ring is close to the cylinder wall. At this time, there will be a certain gap between the inner circle of the piston ring and the bottom of the piston ring groove (about 0.5, sometimes larger). This gap is offset by the gap between the piston and the cylinder, so sometimes the piston ring will be a little higher than the piston (mostly small-diameter pistons). Sometimes the piston ring thickness (called wall thickness in design) will be a little lower than the ring groove, but it does not affect the use.
