Dear teachers, the temperature of the bearing on the inside of the motor of one of our reciprocating compressors is high, and the bearing shells have also been damaged. This issue arose after the equipment was repaired by another company; after the motor bearing shells were repaired, they tried to realign the equipment and checked the crankcase, but the temperature of the bearing on the inside of the motor remained high (75°), which led to the suspension of production. The vibration level of the crankcase is within normal limits. They’re currently stuck and unable to solve this problem, so they want our company to take over the task. We are analyzing the issue and considering whether to accept this work. I’ve come out to ask for help from the experts here; I’d like them to help analyze what the problem might be. I suspect it could be an issue with the alignment of the couplings. Thank you in advance.
It’s best to send a video to see what type it is. Usually, such issues need to be judged on the spot. Based on the above description, it is recommended to check the levelness of the equipment, the axial clearance of the couplings, and the tightness of the bolts used for the equipment foundation shims. There are many reasons discussed: whether the oil grooves in the motor’s shaft bearings are too small, issues with the crankshaft and connecting rods (as it was said that the main bearing had been damaged and replaced recently), excessive axial play, and alignment problems. If the bearing shell temperature is 75°, it is slightly high, but not extremely so for the bearing shells; it should be acceptable. Recommendations: 1. Is the oil inflow and outflow amount normal? 2. Alignment. 3. Is the bearing bush itself a qualified product? Generally, it’s okay if the axial play in a horizontal reciprocating press is a bit larger.
It seems like the compressor shaft is bent, which is causing poor formation of the oil film at the motor bearings; there isn’t enough information, so I’m not sure.
