I think a reference value for this axial clearance is around 2 millimeters, which means 1 millimeter on each side. My understanding is that washers are installed on the tightening bolts of the diaphragm coupling, and these washers fit in a loose fit within the holes in the coupling; as a result, during operation, the pump shaft or motor shaft has some freedom to move. The clearance between the coupling halves in an elastic coupling is 2-4 millimeters. The purpose is to allow the pump shaft and the motor shaft to move freely, so I think 2 millimeters is appropriate.
Oh, from the pictures you sent, it seems to be a single diaphragm. For a single diaphragm, there should be at least a 1-millimeter gap, that’s how I understand it. If what’s needed is to stay within the standard range, then a gap of a few dozen micrometers will suffice, as it can still move on its own
