Zhao Fei, a equipment engineer from Production Department 1 of the Phase II commissioning command center for the tower, carefully inspected the operation status of the unit using a listening rod. He bent down and pressed himself against the casing of the pyrolysis gas compression unit, listening carefully to the subtle sounds coming from inside the equipment; he felt the vibrations of the unit with his fingertips, while keeping a close eye on the various parameters displayed on the dashboard to ensure that nothing was abnormal. China’s first set of fully electric-driven pyrolysis gas compressors was successfully tested at the Tarim Phase II Ethylene Project of Dushanzi Petrochemical (hereinafter referred to as “Tarim Phase II”), laying a foundation for the efficient progress of the project going forward. As the \"heart equipment\" of the ethylene plant, these two units are the first fully electrically driven models of their kind in China; their stable operation is directly related to the production efficiency and safety of the entire plant. In this effort to complete the testing, the project team moved up the scheduled testing date from March 15 to March 1, reducing the timeline by half a month. After the successful trial run, parameters such as the shaft vibration, shaft displacement, bearing temperature, and inlet/outlet pressures of the unit remained stable, providing a reliable power supply for the subsequent purging of the equipment. During the commissioning period, representatives from the command team in charge of the commissioning of Phase II of the tower, the company’s team of technical experts, Production Department 1, the Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Center, supervisors, as well as equipment manufacturers, were all present throughout the process. The operators followed the plan strictly when carrying out operations related to the lubrication system, dry gas seal system, frequency converters, etc., ensuring that the entire process proceeded smoothly and under control. Images: At present, the startup preparations for the two pyrolysis gas compressors are being carried out in an orderly manner, in preparation for the subsequent purging of the entire system. Meanwhile, the motor tests for the ethylene and propylene compression units have been completed, and stress-free piping and alignment work is currently in progress. Once the process, instrumentation, and electrical conditions are met, no-load mechanical testing will be carried out as planned. It is reported that, compared to traditional turbine-driven systems, fully electric drive units eliminate the need for lengthy warm-up periods; they require less space, present lower safety risks, and operate more efficiently, which aligns with the concept of building projects in a green and low-carbon manner.
