For the inspection items of 2.25Cr-1Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel plates, is it necessary to check grain size and non-metallic inclusions? Please, experts, share your views.
It’s not a question of whether it’s necessary or not; rather, both design firms and users will put forward requirements (usually based on API RP 934). Chemical composition, grain size, and purity are essential conditions for ensuring resistance to temper embrittlement (as long as the final quenching test is passed, these parameters will definitely be satisfactory).
Forging is definitely necessary, but Beijing Institute does not specify any requirements regarding the grain size and inclusions of the steel plates, while Luoyang Institute has always imposed such requirements. I didn’t find any instructions regarding these two points in API934; is it necessary for steel plates?
