Our facility uses steam at a pressure of 0.7 MPA and at a temperature of 220 degrees; it features both indirect and direct heat exchange. The consumption is 40 tons per hour. The factory is now considering installing a temperature reducer; I wonder if the total consumption will decrease after its installation? Please give me some advice.

I don’t think it holds much significance. When it comes to heat utilization, certainly no savings can be made – the law of conservation of energy is self-evident. As for whether energy can be saved or not, it depends on how your facility handles its condensate water
By adding a temperature and pressure reducer, it is equivalent to reducing the \"so-called potential energy\" of the steam with high energy (this term is not technical; it might be a more appropriate word in this context). It must be a waste of energy. Your company uses 40 T of steam per hour, which is a relatively large amount; you might consider using the condensate water resulting from high-pressure steam heat exchange to generate flash steam, which can then be supplied to low-pressure steam-consuming equipment. This prevents waste of high-pressure steam. Ensure high efficiency when high energy is available, and low efficiency when low energy is available. It can be said that there is very little waste. Even after high-energy use, there is still waste heat left, which we can extract and utilize for applications with lower energy requirements. This is more energy-efficient.
