Dear marine engineers, please help. It’s a vertical tank with standard elliptical openings at the top and bottom, a cylinder in the middle, and a skirt base for support at the bottom. How can I quickly determine the center of gravity of this equipment? Thank you.
The center of gravity position needs to be calculated. By determining the center of gravity position and weight of each component such as the upper and lower end caps, the cylinder body, the skirt section, and the foundation ring, and then calculating the center of gravity moments for each, the overall center of gravity position can be determined.
The approximate estimate is at half the total height of the device (the middle).
If calculated precisely, components with greater weight such as manholes should also be taken into account.

The center of gravity is determined during the design phase; its location can be found by referring to the drawings. If only a rough estimate is needed, for devices with a skirt base, the center of gravity is generally located somewhere along the total length, towards the base, between one-third and two-thirds of the way down. When lifting such devices horizontally, tying a rope at this position will suffice to lift them. Of course, a single rope cannot be used to lift a device. Vertical lifting – it can be hung on the lifting lugs.
