Why, when designing pressure vessels and welding connecting pipes to the openings in the inner cylinder sections, cannot the protruding length of the pipe exceed three times its diameter?
I didn’t understand what the original poster meant. Could you tell me where it comes from?
It is simply a storage tank: the inner cylinder has dimensions of 1100*4, while the outer insulation cylinder has dimensions of 1200*4. The thermometer consists of a φ32*2 stainless steel tube mounted on the sections of the inner cylinder, along with clamps. Regarding the length requirements for the pipe + clamp, some designers state that the total length should not exceed three times the diameter of the pipe. I just want to know why; is there any evidence?

I haven’t seen in the documentation any requirement specifying a maximum length for the pipe.
The overhang length at the connection point needs to be considered in terms of reinforcement; it cannot be too short due to reasons such as insulation and ease of maintenance. I’ve never heard of it being too long, however. Given the structure of your device, does the extension suffer from thermal expansion effects?
