For the hydrostatic testing of large storage tanks, if there is no water available on site, can oil be used directly for the test?
What are the design and manufacturing standards for your storage tanks? There must be requirements regarding the medium there, right?
According to standard 50341, the issue is that there isn’t a large amount of water on site; can the medium stored in tanks be used for testing directly?

(2) However, if a leak occurs in the tank and it is filled with flammable materials, welding repairs are not permitted. (3) At this time, the storage tank needs to be emptied, cleaned, and purged, and must pass inspection before repair work can proceed. Where should the test medium inside the storage tank be stored? (4) As required by the specifications, a settlement test of the tank’s foundation should be conducted simultaneously with the water filling test; what should be done if uneven settlement occurs in the foundation? (5) Recommendation: First, organize relevant parties to identify potential risks during the testing process, and check and verify the quality of processes such as the prefabrication, assembly, and welding of the tank. Discuss this with the tank’s design team, who can then propose countermeasures and solutions (for example, whether increasing the proportion of non-destructive testing on the welds could eliminate the need for a water filling test). (6) According to the design requirements, prepare a practical and feasible test plan, and exercise effective control during its implementation. Note, be careful as the level is high; don’t be careless.
No water on site? That’s a basic requirement for safe working conditions – it’s not acceptable. They must be trying to save water, haha
