Can the thickness of the shell plates of a spherical tank vary? Under what circumstances is this possible, and how is it determined?
None of the spherical tanks I’ve seen before had this feature.
Wall thickness design calculations are feasible, but manufacturing costs and the difficulty of sourcing steel plates vary. So, generally the same thickness is chosen.
