When using CO2 gas shielded welding for welding dissimilar steels such as stainless steel 316L and carbon steel Q245R, which type of wire should be used as the core wire in the CO2 gas shielded welding process? Thank you for the guidance!
How is it possible to use CO2 as a shielding gas? .
Using ER309Mo stainless steel cored wire
YB/T5092-2016 ER309L stainless steel welding wire can be used; ER309LSi is also an option. Argon or other inert gases can be used for shielding, and MTG welding can be employed; however, CO2 cannot be used for welding；
Why can’t CO2 gas shielded welding be used? Can GB/T17853 be used as a reference?
Pressure vessel pressure welds cannot be welded using CO2 gas shielded welding, as the standards do not recommend it.
It seems there is such a requirement, but I can’t recall right now which standard and which clause it is
It’s just not recommended; there’s no mandatory prohibition against using it. It seems that many organizations allow its use once a welding assessment has been completed successfully.
