Question: When checking the maximum allowable operating pressure of the materials used for pipe flanges at a specific pressure, the standards specify the maximum allowable operating pressure of the material at the operating temperature; is it necessary to consult the values at the design temperature as well?
Of course, the mechanical properties of materials vary at different temperatures. When selecting flanges, temperature is a very important parameter.
As I understand it, the operating temperature here refers to the design temperature. Because the maximum operating temperature can be used as the design temperature.
I may not have expressed myself clearly – is it to change the operating temperature listed in the standards to the design temperature in order to find the maximum allowable operating pressure for the material?

The maximum allowable operating pressure is determined based on the design temperature, not the design pressure. I believe the working temperature is used as the standard because it facilitates use in factories. Moreover, the values chosen for the design temperature (along with the associated tolerances) vary as well; therefore, using the working temperature is more convenient and scientific. It’s just necessary to understand the difference between the meaning of the working temperature in this context and its actual meaning in practice when designing.
The operating temperature can fluctuate, but the maximum range of these fluctuations will not exceed the design pressure. Therefore, when selecting the maximum allowable operating pressure for the flange, it is necessary to use the design pressure; otherwise, if the operating temperature fluctuates significantly, the strength of the flange may be compromised.
Find the corresponding maximum allowable operating pressure based on the design temperature.
