Recently, I asked the equipment manufacturer to design a Class I storage tank. When they reviewed the drawings, they said that the use of Q235B steel plates is no longer recommended; I’m not sure where this recommendation comes from
In my opinion, the GB150-2011 standard has made the Q235 series of steel plates part of Appendix D.
Since it is still listed in Appendix 150, it can still be used if it meets the standard requirements

The price of Q245R isn’t much different from that of 235, yet its quality is better than 235’s. So why is 235 still used?
It can be used. So the manufacturer recommends not using it. In my opinion, meeting the requirements of Appendix D is acceptable, but the S and P content in Q235B is likely to be unsatisfactory; it cannot be used! It would be better to use Q245R when selecting the material.

Q235B can be used after meeting the tolerance specifications and the requirements specified by 150. Add relevant requirements in the technical specifications or purchase agreements as well; for Q235B steel plates with multiple requirements, what advantages are there in terms of procurement timeline and price?
Storage tanks are not considered pressure vessels; therefore, the material selection is based on standards 50341 and 3046, with no recommendation against their use.
