As title: Designing a steam storage tank using Q345R or Q245R steel plates – what should be the appropriate corrosion margin?
This standard process package provides recommendations for the allowable corrosion allowance based on the quality of the steam; some recommendations suggest a value of 1.5, but for carbon steel and low-alloy steel we generally use an allowance of not less than 2, and sometimes 3 as well.
Is it too big? Is it okay to use 1mm...
1mm is the minimum corrosion allowance specified in 150; for corrosion caused by water, it might be a bit too small? What is the designed service life? Now many clients require an extended design service life. However, both this corrosion rate and the design service life are determined by the manufacturing process, and we generally do not dare to set them arbitrarily.
If the steam is generated from boiler water that has been treated, 0.5 mm is generally used. Refer to GB/T 16507-2013 \"Water-tube boilers\" §13.3.1.
It is recommended to choose a value between 2.0 and 3.0. Because it is a steam storage tank.
Taking 1 mm also complies with the fixed-volume regulations and GB150; since in some boilers no corrosion margin is considered, it seems appropriate to use 1 mm.
Generally, 1 mm is sufficient!
