In the TSG Z6002-2010 regulations for welder examinations, there is no mention of base metal thickness coverage; only weld metal thickness coverage is specified. Does that mean that the thickness of the base material is no longer a problem? If one welder does not have the necessary qualifications, is it sufficient to use a few more welders? Specifically, the thickness of the test piece for testing is 5 mm, with the weld thickness ranging from 0 to 10 mm. The current product has a thickness of 20 mm, and it is welded by 2 welders, with each welder handling 10 mm of the welding work. Is that okay? (2017-11-29)
Don’t you find that troublesome? From the perspective of production management, that is also not allowed

This is completely fine; the examination rules do not prohibit it. Moreover, the rules only take into account the thickness of the weld metal, and not the thickness of the base material. It’s just more complicated in practice – how can you be sure that 10 mm is the exact value?
