The company recently had an old evaporator repaired; it was a unit with 3 compressors, and the piping was divided into 3 circuits. Since it is a very old unit, no tensioning bolts are used for the connections of the tubes, chamber plates, and sealing plates; without adding sealing gaskets, tightening the bolts around the perimeter will cause a slight arching in the middle section, which can lead to cross-connection of various pipelines. Initially, fluororubber was used for the gasketing between the tube sheets, chamber plates, and end plates. It was used twice, both times during pressure tests, and everything worked fine – there were no leaks or connections between the pipes. However, once the system started operating, it was immediately corroded by the R22 refrigerant and oil inside, which led to leaks. Later, ZW8800 non-asbestos boards were used; due to their lack of elasticity, they would crack immediately when pressure was applied to the middle section. I would like to ask now whether oil-resistant asbestos rubber sheets and polytetrafluoroethylene sheets can be used. Can these two types of sheets, when used as gaskets, possess a relatively low degree of elasticity similar to that of fluororubber, so that they can be compressed after the bolts are tightened to ensure sealing? Or are there any other ways to seal it? Please let me know, thank you!
I don’t know… But I’ve tried them twice already; why not give these two another try?
Try reducing the width of the gasket, thereby decreasing the contact area between the gasket and the flange sealing surface, to see if that makes a difference. Some gaskets are too wide, which leads to leaks
It shouldn’t be wide; currently, the partition inside the gasket is only about 6 mm thick
None of them work; just repair the partition. It’s an old unit, so the partition might be deformed
Oil-resistant asbestos rubber sheets and polytetrafluoroethylene sheets can both be used
