A high-temperature pipeline developed a leak; the area was sealed with glue. After some time, a leak appeared at the glue injection hole at the bottom, which had been sealed off with screws. What could be the possible causes of this leak?
For high-temperature pipelines, this type of pressure-based leak sealing is only temporary; the pipeline section where the leak occurs must be stopped and replaced promptly to ensure safe operation.
The box isn’t welded tightly to the pipe, so leakage is possible
The leak point should be riveted first. Ensure no leaks, or at least minimal leaks, and then use a polymer-based sealant to prevent any further leakage.
Sealing it with iron mortar gives better results.
Adhesive does not withstand high temperatures; sealing leaks is only a temporary solution. The proper approach is to weld large-diameter Haf pipes and cover them externally, which should last for about half a year and thus be sufficient until the next major maintenance. Operation at high temperature and under pressure is possible; the Taigang blast furnaces have undergone similar pipeline repairs.
I heard for the first time that high-pressure pipes are riveted – isn’t that seeking death? It can be riveted at low pressure, but not at high pressure. Additionally, you mentioned high-temperature environments; sealant that is pressed in under high pressure can become hard when exposed to such temperatures for an extended period of time. In this case, its sealing properties may be lost, and it can be refilled with sealant. But it is best to take the opportunity to park and replace the pipes.
