I would like to ask fellow sailors: does the small safety valve on the instrument air tank of the shut-off valve need to be calibrated every year? Our company has been considering removing the safety valve from the instrument air tank, as there is already a safety valve installed on the dehydration and buffering tank for the instrument air produced by the air compressor
What is this safety valve designed to protect? Are there any procedures required for canceling or making other changes to the safety valves in your company?
It’s not possible to go; if a safety door design is used on this device, then that device has to be used. Because although other devices are connected to it, the safety valve design requires calculation of the safe discharge volume, and it is not possible to use the safety valves on those other devices. Why do some people keep asking such questions? You need to check whether the as-built drawings of the equipment specify the installation of safety valves. If the drawings require it, then the valves should be installed in the system; it’s not necessary to install them on the equipment itself. But if the as-built drawings provide detailed instructions, it’s better to install them anyway. It’s not the case that if it’s installed elsewhere, there’s no need to install it elsewhere; the safety valves installed in the system also need to meet the required standards.
