Is a tank with a jacket, in which steam is passed through the jacket and the pressure is less than 2 kilograms, and which is open at the top, considered a pressure vessel? Is it necessary to register it or obtain a permit?
The jacket is considered in terms of multiple chambers: 1. The tank is open and has already been emptied, so it does not fall into any specific category. 2. If the jacket pressure is greater than 0.1 MPa, the volume is 0.03 cubic meters or more, and the medium is steam, then classification is required. Therefore, it should be classified as a pressure vessel as a whole. 3. Clause 1.5 of TSG21-2016 classifies the steam heating coils of atmospheric pressure vessels as belonging to a separate category; if conditions permit, replacing the jacket with an internal heating coil format can avoid classification into that category.
