What are the factors that determine whether to conduct an ammonia leak test or an air tightness test?
Medium properties: For highly permeable media, using air for a airtightness test definitely won’t work
Could you specify which ones are considered to have high permeability? Is ammonia leakage and air tightness related to the density of the medium?
For ammonia leakage testing, we generally conduct it on the shell side to check the pipe joints when increasing the hydrostatic test pressure of the shell side in heat exchangers, and when the strength of the shell side is insufficient. The rest are subjected to airtightness testing.
It depends on what the medium used in the design is. If the permeability of that medium is greater than that of air, then using air for the airtightness test means that even if the test passes, it does not guarantee no leakage in actual use; in such cases, conducting an airtightness test with air is meaningless. Therefore, the choice of method for conducting density tests depends on the specific medium conditions.
