We have a piece of equipment that needs to be manufactured by a machinery factory. When the factory gave us a quote, it mentioned that there are many forgings involved in the production of this equipment, which is why the price was high. May I ask what those components are that constitute forgings? What exactly counts as a forging? When are forgings needed? Are there many such issues? lol
Forgings are used for components with high strength requirements, such as the tube sheets of heat exchangers.

If a part is a forging, then there must be a corresponding forging standard for it, such as NB/T47008, NB/T47009, NB/T47010; in other words, the manufacturing process of that part’s blank must comply with one of those standards! If not, then it’s not! For example, manhole flange covers can be manufactured from thick sheet metal available on the market, or they can have forgings made by a forging factory as raw materials for processing! As for the choice of raw material for this flange cover, it is determined by the designer. It should be noted that, for the same specifications and material, parts made from forgings perform much better than those made from sheet metal; of course, their price is also higher. The quality is good, so it can be used with confidence; if you’re not sure, opt for a more expensive processing option.
