Boiler water: phenolphthalein alkalinity 15.50, total alkalinity 20.34, pH 11.78; dissolved solids 12,034 mg/L. Feed water: hardness 2.41, pH 7.34
The first thing that’s clear is that the water quality in your boiler is extremely poor – the TDS level is as high as 12 grams per liter; it must be an incredibly concentrated solution there.
How do you usually measure the dissolution of solids? What are the linear ranges for filtering, evaporation to dryness, dissolved solids, and conductivity?
The water hardness is too high; could it be that tap water is being used?
It’s the sodium ion exchanger; the standard requirement is that the hardness should be less than 0.03 millimoles per liter. Could it be that the units are different?
The units are the same. What are the reasons for this? Is a high concentration of solid substances dissolved in the boiler water related to high feedwater hardness?
Generally, a sodium ion exchanger together with chemicals for boiler operation are used; it’s not clear what size the boiler is. If possible, opt for reverse osmosis – it can also be used in the cafeteria and for human consumption. Boilers must be properly managed; otherwise, it leads to unnecessary spending, low efficiency, increased coal consumption, and pipe explosions
