I received a set of drawings and found that the water tank was designed in accordance with GB50341, the \"Design Code for Vertical Cylindrical Welded Steel Oil Tanks\". The difference between this tank and conventional water tanks is that it has more reinforcing ribs on the top – is this reasonable? Is it a waste?

You need to determine whether the medium in the tank is light oil or heavy oil; if it’s light oil, do you think it’s suitable to use it for storing water? Why do others have more reinforcing ribs on the top? If the density is different, the water pressure will be different as well. The operating conditions change. It’s fine to reinforce the top of the light oil. It’s only a problem if it’s not strengthened.
The loads considered in 50341 are quite “extreme””

The top structure is determined based on factors such as diameter, radius of curvature, and external loads; the number of reinforcement ribs is calculated accordingly. The medium used for filling with water or oil is the same in both cases. If it is a large vertical storage tank, instead of using GB50341, API650 should be used. What else can be used for calculation?
