I have a question now: how to heat the oil inside a cylindrical tank in order to control its temperature. I’m thinking of adding a heating layer, along with thermocouples and a temperature controller. Could anyone give me some advice on how to combine these elements? How to build a heating layer? What to use for heating? How to use it in conjunction with a thermocouple? Also, how to choose the insulation material and determine its thickness? Thank you so much to everyone!

I’ve learned that the choices in the laboratory may differ from those in practice. If I had a choice, I would use an electric heating element for direct heating. Use a thermostat to control the oil temperature.

For capacities up to 10L, electric heating can be considered, with temperature measurement points installed inside and outside the equipment. Heating methods that have been used include electric wire heaters and stainless steel coil heaters; the heat tracing belts used in the early days were not very effective. ------------------------------------ For larger equipment, I usually design it by adding a jacket on the outside and using thermal oil for electric heating; temperature sensors are also installed within the jacket and inside the equipment. It is not recommended to use heating elements directly inside the equipment. Or use an oil temperature controller with heat transfer oil for circulating heating/cooling.
