09MnNiDR is a steel plate for low-temperature pressure vessels. “D is the first letter of the low-pinyin notation; R is the first letter of the Rong-pinyin notation. 09MnNiDR: Condition of delivery – normalized or normalized + tempered; quenched + tempered, followed by low-temperature impact testing at -70 degrees Celsius. I. Chemical composition of 09MnNiDR: 09MnNiDR is available in cut forms; chemical composition (by weight percentage): Wt% C Si Mn Ni V Nb Al Ti P ≤ 0.12 0.15–0.50 1.20–1.60 0.3–0.8 — ≤0.04 ≥0.02 0.02 0.008. II. Mechanical properties of 09MnNiDR: Condition of delivery, thickness of steel plate in mm, tensile test, impact test, bending test. Tensile strength Rm, MPa; yield strength; elongation A/%; temperature/℃; V-notch impact energy at 180° degrees. Minimum values: not less than b=2a. For 09MnNiDR with normalized and tempered treatment: 6–16 mm thickness: 440–570 MPa tensile strength, 300% elongation, 23–70 J impact energy; for thickness >16–36 mm: 430–560 MPa tensile strength, 280% elongation; for thickness >36–60 mm: 430–560 MPa tensile strength, 270% elongation; for thickness >60–120 mm: 420–550 MPa tensile strength, 260% elongation. Ultrasonic inspection standards for steel plates are in accordance with GB/T2970 or JB/T4730.3; the inspection standards and acceptable levels are specified in the contract. III. Delivery condition of 09MnNiDR: normalized or normalized + tempered; quenched + tempered; low-temperature impact at -70 degrees Celsius. (1) The ultrasonic testing standards for steel plates shall be in accordance with GB/T2970 or JB/T4730.3; the testing standards and acceptable quality levels shall be specified in the contract. (2) The surface of the steel plate must be free from defects such as cracks, bubbles, folds, and inclusions that could be harmful to its use. The steel plate should not have delamination. (3) Steel plates are accepted in batches; each batch consists of steel plates of the same grade, same furnace number, same thickness, and same heat treatment process. The weight of each batch shall not exceed 30 T, and steel plates with a single sheet weight exceeding 30 T shall be grouped together. (4) As required by the customer, steel plates with a thickness greater than 16 mm can have their mechanical properties tested one heat treatment batch at a time. (5) For steel plates with a thickness greater than 40 mm, the axis of the impact specimen shall be located at one-quarter of the plate’s thickness, in accordance with the provisions of GB/T2975. (6) The packaging, marking, and quality certificate of the steel plates shall comply with the provisions of GB/T247. IV. Applications of 09MnNiDR: Used in the manufacture of petroleum and chemical equipment such as deethanization towers, CO2 absorption towers, medium-pressure flash towers, coolers, reabsorption towers, compressor casings, and propane cryogenic storage tanks. V. Compared with the American standard low-temperature vessel steel SA537CL1, 09MnNiDR requires a low-temperature impact resistance of -40 degrees; in terms of both mechanical properties and application range, 09MnNiDR has clear advantages over it. Domestic 09MnNiDR is now capable of replacing imported SA537CL1, and various organizations make extensive use of Wuhan Iron and Steel’s 09MnNiDR.
