What is the definition of Transition Welds?

I have a question for the experts on this forum: What is the definition of \"Transition Welds\" in the chapter title 7.4.11.9 Transition Welds of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII-2? Some people say that welding of all high-alloy steels is referred to as Transition Welds; others say it refers to welding between steel plates of different thicknesses, while still others say it refers to welding of different materials. Is there any standard or welding manual that provides a clear definition of this term? Thank you to all my forum friends. 7.4.11.9 Transition Welds. (a) All weld metal deposits in solid wall sections or fillet welds in layered transitions must be inspected across the entire surface of those deposits using either the magnetic particle or liquid penetrant method, in accordance with paragraphs 7.5.6 or 7.5.7. (b) When such surface weld metal deposits are used in welded joints that require radiographic inspection, those deposits must also be included in the inspection process.
Does it mean “transition weld”?
A literal translation is “transition weld”. However, the definition of this term seems quite vague; there is no official wording to be found in standards or welding manuals.
