Page 331, clause 8.2.1 of GB150.4: The thickness of the welded joint shall be determined in accordance with the following provisions: b) For butt welds and fillet welds, it is the thickness of the weld itself; c) For combined welds that are butt welds and fillet welds, the thicker of the two thicknesses ; How should we understand points b) and c)?

a) For equal-thickness fully penetrated butt joints, it refers to the thickness of the steel; b) For butt welds, it refers to the thickness of the weld. How should one interpret these two values?
I understand it as the weld height being equal to the thickness of the welded joint; I’m not sure if that’s correct
Is it that the joint type and weld type aren’t distinguished? One can refer to GB/T3375-94 \"Welding Terms\" to make the distinction in form first; the rest should then be easy to understand. The thickness is taken according to the corresponding pattern form.

Take a look at GBT3375 welding terminology; once you understand the definitions of butt joints, butt welds, fillet welds, and weld thickness, there will be no contradictions.
