Dear everyone: Basic parameters of the steel chimney: height of 70 meters, diameter of 2.5 meters (lower section, Q245r, 24 mm) and 1.5 meters (upper section, Q245r, 18 mm); temperature is 90 degrees, with a transition section in between; It has no lining nor tension cables, and is severely corroded; I want to upgrade the entire material to 304 ; Do we still need to find a designer, or can we just change the material while keeping the original design? If you have enough money, use titanium-steel composite panels; 304 steel isn’t suitable as it has slightly poorer corrosion resistance and is more expensive. If the budget is limited, use ND steel with a glass phosphide lining for corrosion protection.
Be sure to have a qualified design firm carry out the calculations and produce drawings. Otherwise, you won’t be able to afford the consequences if something goes wrong during the process.

No, the strength of S30408 is lower than that of Q245R. Also, what causes corrosion if the flue gas contains HCl? Changing to 30408 didn’t work.
