What material should be used for high-purity nitrogen storage tanks? Is Q345R still stainless steel?
We choose Q345R; for medical or food applications, it is recommended to use food-grade stainless steel.
Q345R or S30408
It is recommended to use S30408, with the inner surface to be mirror-polished after manufacturing
It is not possible to determine precisely which material should be used just based on this information. Industrial-grade Q345R can certainly be used, but such containers are generally affected by ambient temperature; it is also necessary to consider whether the average lowest temperature during the coldest month in that area is too low. If high cleanliness standards are required for the gas or if there are special requirements for its use, S30408 is a better choice; however, I don’t see any need for polishing.
There is no requirement for cleanliness; Q345R is sufficient
It mainly depends on where the nitrogen is used; stainless steel should be chosen if cleanliness requirements exist, while Q345R is sufficient in the absence of such requirements.
