Are the weld evaluation criteria for butt welds applicable to fillet welds, and are there requirements regarding the thickness of the base material and the weld itself? Also, for the fillet welds at the pipe seats of containers and connectors, can they be welded using the qualification for butt welds of pipes, or is it necessary to have the qualification for fillet welds of pipe plates?

The weld assessment for butt welds applies to fillet welds as well, with no limit on thickness; For the fillet welds at the pipe seats of containers and connectors, it depends on whether the groove is made on the pipe or on the container; if it is on the container, a FG-class qualification is required. Installed on pipes and covered by Category G qualification ;
Thank you, that’s a good point. Additionally, the fillet welds mentioned in weld assessment are not exactly the same as those in welder qualification tests, right?
Our **standards for this concept have always been rather vague, which can lead to misunderstandings. In fact, the fillet welds mentioned in both standards should refer to rootless fillet welds. In both standards, the buttwelds referred to are those without grooves; however, the welder certification standards include an additional type of joint – the tube sheet fillet joint – which must be covered by an FG-level qualification.
