Question: In GB/T151-2014, it is specified that the ends of the partition plates in heat exchangers can be trimmed; may the thickness at these trimmed areas be less than their calculated thickness? If it cannot be less than its calculated thickness, but when the partition plate is thick, does the thickness at the trimmed edge conflict with the requirement in clause 6.5.3.2 of the standard (where the groove width should be 8–14 mm)?
When calculating the partition for this application, the pressure involved is a small pressure difference; therefore, it is not necessary to use the design pressure for the pipe side. The partition will be subjected to only slight pressure, so it does not need to be very thick.
Since the standards were established in this way, extreme operating conditions must have been taken into account; don’t worry, there will be no problems.
The main question is: For the end sections of the partition plates in heat exchanger tube boxes, it is possible to trim these edges; can the thickness at those trimmed areas be less than their calculated thickness?
Calculate how thick it can be; including the allowance for corrosion on both sides, 14 is more than enough
The connection between the segmented partition and the tube sheet is of the simply supported type, and the maximum force does not act on the thinned edge; therefore, I believe it is not necessary to use the thickness of that thinned area as the calculation thickness.
