Designing flanges with 6 bolt holes is simply inhumane; from time to time, clients provide drawings with 6 holes or a multiple of 3 and ask you to design them – it’s really annoying! ! ! How am I supposed to supply you with the pipes? It’s a standard length of pipe, but for the bom table I still need to provide a custom-made flange for you, along with a diagram and installation instructions. The pipes must be arranged vertically at the midpoint ; There are so many standard flanges – national standards, American standards – all of them have 4 holes or a multiple of 4. You don’t need to use those; why go and design something like this? How can amateurs get in here?

I noticed this issue and raised the suggestion to replace it with standard flanges; I passed this suggestion on to the client, who said that the production had already been completed and sent me a photo
For practical calculation and cost reasons, 4 are not enough, 8 is too many, while 6 is just right. Since it’s a custom order anyway, it’s fine to include matching flanges with the expansion joint. If that doesn’t work, use a 12-hole flange; this way it will meet both the requirement of being a multiple of 4 and the requirement of being a multiple of 3.

Are you joking? Why do bolt holes need to be multiples of 4? It’s so that they can be arranged in the middle of the structure to avoid leaks. That expansion joint flange is itself a non-standard flange; since it’s non-standard, all that’s required is that it meets the needs regarding placement in the middle of the structure and stress tolerance. If someone wants to save costs by using 6 holes, wouldn’t that still meet the requirement of arranging them in the middle? As for the issue of matching parts, just have them provide matching flanges. As for the requirement that standard flanges use multiples of 4, this is something that people have adopted and followed as a standard; in reality, using multiples of 2 will also meet the requirements. As long as it’s not an absurd odd number like 7 or 11, any number will do.
I don’t know what field you work in. In the design institutes I’ve been at, as well as in the engineering companies I work for now, if you’re supposed to design a 6-hole flange, doesn’t the supervisor in charge of the container area kick you?
