I’m a complete beginner in pressure vessel design, and I have a small question I’d like to ask the teachers and experienced professionals here.:) Regarding the materials used for heat exchangers, these include sheets, forgings, and pipes. Apart from the cases specified in the material section of GB150.2 where low-temperature impact testing is required, under what other circumstances is such testing necessary? Are there any specific standards that address this? For example, the design temperatures for both the tube side and shell side are 250 degrees; the operating temperature is 195 degrees on the tube side and 120 degrees on the shell side. However, the site conditions are extreme, with the lowest temperature reaching -30 degrees and the average lowest temperature during the coldest month being -13.7 degrees. Is it necessary to conduct low-temperature impact tests on all materials? I would appreciate the guidance from all teachers and seniors.
Look at the specific materials used. If pure stainless steel is used, then none are needed.
With such a high design temperature, there is no need to conduct impact tests.
Neither the design temperature nor the operating temperature is in a low-temperature range; the ambient temperature has no impact on it. Containers designed for storage at normal temperatures are highly affected by environmental conditions
Whether to apply low-temperature shock is determined based on operating conditions; the design ambient temperature is only taken into account for selecting the bearing material.
The following aspects are recommended for consideration: 1) The operating temperature range of the standards and specifications applicable to the selected materials; 2) The provisions regarding the minimum design metal temperature for this equipment as specified in the unified regulations for this project or those specific to the equipment category ; 3) If a minimum design metal temperature is not specified, the impact of ambient temperature on the equipment should be considered in light of specific conditions such as whether the equipment is equipped with insulation; for details, refer to 4.3.4 in GB/T 150.1-2011 and 4.4.3 in GB/T 151-2014 ; 4) Working temperatures and design temperatures of the tube side and shell side under various operating conditions of this equipment ; 5) It is also necessary to take into account the relevant requirements of the specific industry to which it belongs.
