08Ni3DR I. Introduction to 08Ni3DR steel plate: The 08Ni3DR steel plate is a type of steel used in ultra-low temperature applications; it is suitable for manufacturing the steel components of LNG storage tanks and LNG ships used for storing and transporting liquefied natural gas. In the grade designation of 08Ni3DR steel, “08” indicates that the nominal carbon content in the steel plate is around 0.08%, “Ni3” denotes that the nominal nickel content is around 3.5%, and “DR” is an abbreviation for low-temperature vessels. Since its Ni content is around 3.5%, it is also known as 3.5Ni steel. II. Delivery condition of 08Ni3DR steel plates: The plates are usually delivered in the heat-treated conditions of normalizing, normalizing + tempering, or quenching + tempering. It should be noted that for plates with a thickness greater than 20 mm delivered in the normalizing or normalizing + tempering condition, as well as those with a thickness greater than 16 mm delivered in the quenching + tempering condition, ultrasonic testing must be performed on each individual plate. III. Chemical composition of 08Ni3DR steel plate: C: ≤0.1; Si: 0.15–0.35; Mn: 0.3–0.8; P: ≤0.015; S: ≤0.006; Ni: 3.25–3.7; Mo: ≤0.12; V: ≤0.05. IV. Mechanical properties of 08Ni3DR steel plate: Yield strength: ≥300 MPa; Tensile strength: 480–610 MPa; Elongation after fracture: ≥21%; Bend diameter: d=3a; Impact temperature: -104°C; Minimum impact energy: 48 J. V. Production process of 08Ni3DR steel plate: The steel is smelted in oxygen converters or electric furnaces, with secondary refining processes being employed. The compression ratio of continuous casting billets and ingots shall be not less than 3, while that of electroslag remelting billets shall be not less than 2. VI. Specifications of 08Ni3DR steel plates: Thickness: 8–100 mm; Width: 1600–4020 mm; Length: 6000–17500 mm
