When performing tube routing design for heat exchangers in HGCAD, I encountered the two concepts of \"centered tube routing\" and \"mid-span tube routing\": I drew my own diagrams showing the tube arrangement in a triangular pattern and a square pattern within the tube side. 1. Figure 1 2. Figure 2 3. Figure 3 Now my question is: 1. I want to know what the differences are between the two piping methods of center-aligned piping and mid-span piping? Are there any standards or literature that explain these two piping methods? 2. Is there anyone who can explain to me, with the help of images, what center-aligned piping and mid-span piping are? Is this related to the number of pipes? Is it related to triangular or square arrangements? 3. Is it correct to say that centered piping means there is a pipe at the exact center, while mid-span piping means there is no pipe at the exact center? 4. Could you explain what type of piping method is used in each of the three images I uploaded?
It is generally used in horizontal pipelines to prevent corrosion of the bolts directly below in case of leaks, and it also facilitates tightening when multiple pipelines run side by side
Could that explain the structural difference between spanning and centering?
But there isn’t any explanation on centered piping or piping across the center on the entire page
Personal opinion: There is not much difference between aligning the heat exchange tubes centrally or across the center; when the diameters are the same and the specifications of the heat exchange tubes are identical, the only change is in the number of tubes used. It doesn’t have any special meaning. It is just a method of arranging the heat exchange tubes. It has no impact on the strength of the heat exchanger or its heat transfer efficiency.
It’s just a matter of quantity; usually I don’t pay attention to this in design – as long as there’s enough, that’s fine
