When welding the manhole section to the cylinder, can the shape of the end of the manhole section that extends into the cylinder be maintained as it is, without it being cut into an arc shape (to match the inner circle of the cylinder)?
It depends on whether the equipment design permits it. In cases related to hygiene, food processing, etc., cleaning is required, and any dead corners need to be leveled; if there are no such requirements, then from a strength perspective, unevenness inside will not cause any problems
After the welding of the manhole was completed, the poster went in and out through it and realized that in extreme situations it can cause back injuries!

From the perspective of calculations for opening reinforcement, not cutting the arc actually increases the metal area, which is beneficial for strength calculations. In practical applications, wherever the pressure is not too high, reinforcement rings can be used; most manholes come equipped with such rings. The additional metal area resulting from the extension of the pipe inlet has little impact on the calculation results.
The reason for not cutting it into an arc shape is to save trouble...
The manholes I design don’t have rounded edges either; I try to reduce manufacturing costs as much as possible without compromising safety. I got through the manhole I designed; it was fine. Entering and exiting the manhole is a rather difficult task, and the person involved will pay close attention to it; the protruding pipe in that area has little impact. In fact, more important than cutting off the protruding section is to arrange load-bearing points on the inside, outside, top, and bottom of the manhole; this makes it much easier to enter and exit the manhole, as there is no need to have someone outside to hold it open while entering or exiting.
