I have a question for everyone: When selecting an RJ sealing ring, after determining the ring number R57 according to the standards (ASME/HGT-class series), how should one consider the strength of the metal ring material? (Material incompatibility has already been taken into account.) (I see that among the recommended materials, there are those with relatively low strength, such as 316L; therefore, checking the strength using only thick-walled cylinders is not sufficient.) Is it time to switch to a high-strength material? Are there any other verification methods? ) Thank you all! :handshake
ASME B16.20 Metal gaskets for pipe flanges – hardness of the metal rings contained therein. You can then choose the material of the metal washer based on the flange material, ensuring it is softer than the flange’s hardness.

Is it to check the sealing performance or strength? As for gaskets, it should be the sealing performance, but RJ gaskets are not ordinary ones – they are flat and not designed to withstand internal pressure; it seems that RJ gaskets can indeed withstand internal pressure though, I haven’t checked this, and they are rarely used

Metal ring gaskets are generally selected according to standards, and there is no need to verify their strength. The material used is determined based on the medium involved, rather than being calculated based on strength
