An old stainless steel mixing tank with a capacity of 5 m3. It is a single-layer stainless steel tank, and I now want to supply cooling water to it in order to lower its temperature. It’s not very feasible to weld a jacket; what if copper or stainless steel pipes are wrapped around the outside to carry chilled water, with insulation applied over those pipes? Would this achieve a good cooling effect? Is there any other better way?
Water tank 1. First, open the water supply valve of the mixing tank. 2. Connect the water inlet of the cooling water tank to the water supply port of the mixing tank. 3. Open the outlet valve of the cooling water tank, and connect the outlet pipe to the return water inlet of the mixing tank. 4. Turn on the water outlet pump of the cooling tank, and connect the return pipe to the water inlet of the cooling tank via a solenoid valve to create a circulation system.
Increasing the internal heat extraction coil yields better results; the external heat extraction coil works as well too, but it depends on the technical requirements.

Depending on the specific process requirements, I personally believe that coil cooling is not as effective as jacketed cooling; the main issue is uneven heat transfer, which can lead to the formation of local hot spots
When it is an outer coil rather than an outer half-tube jacket, it is generally used for insulation or heat retention; the heat exchange efficiency is limited because there is line contact rather than surface contact, and the limited heat exchange area reduces its effectiveness.
The inner coil definitely provides better heat transfer performance than the outer jacket, as its K value is higher
It should be determined whether the equipment can be welded in place; if conditions permit, considering welding semi-tubes on the outer wall of the equipment is an option. Welding the half-tubes requires too much work; it’s not a problem when manufacturing new containers. The old container can be used to weld around the outside of circular or oval tubes, and these tubes are then fixed to the old container via spot welding; it’s just not clear to what extent this approach will improve the heat exchange efficiency
Depending on the operating conditions, if a good heat exchange effect is desired, a pump and heat exchanger are used for cyclic cooling. If there isn’t such a high demand, adding coils is also an option
